Two ladies from Herefordshire joined Torpoint and Rame Peninsula Lions Club International at Cawsand on Monday evening to hand over a cheque for £1,000 to Children's Hospice South West. Best friends Alison Chalmers (66) and Virginia Jensen (62) decided last year that they would embark on a seven-week walk around the Westcountry coastal path, from Minehead to Poole. The trip was planned well in advance, with them walking ten to 15 miles each day. When it came to staying on the Rame Peninsula, they contacted Jim Parsonage, choir and local Lions member, who Alison's husband had met when his Gloucester choir were on a previous tour. The ladies arrived in Cawsand on Monday at the start of their fifth week and joined members of the Lions Club at the Cawsand Bay Hotel to hand over the cheque. When all their sponsor money is received, Alison and Virginia will have raised £700; Jim gave £100 and the Lions added £600.
