There is an idea to have a tidal barrier in Looe across the mouth of the river and to retain water upstream in the East and West Looe rivers and create a marina.
As most of us know we have thousands of waders here, feeding off the mud flats on the East and West Rivers. Are these feeding grounds going to disappear for the sake of a marina? At the moment on the river we have nesting sixteen pairs of herons, mallards, shelduck, plus our little egrets who arrived here just six years ago. Are we going to lose these migrants for the sake of a marina? I certainly hope not.
Please have a barrier to stop the flooding but let it out again so that the waders can feed and make a living.
