HANNAFORE Beach which has been adopted by SECTA (South East Cornwall Tourism Association) will be having a good clean up on Sunday by volunteers, as part of the national beach cleaning weekend. And around the coastline at Seaton, Louisa Marchbanks of The Monkey Sanctuary Trust is also appealing for volunteers to help with the beach clean there, on Saturday evening, beginning at 6pm. Beachwatch 2004 launched a national 'Adopt-a-Beach' campaign this year through the Marine Conservation Society, the main sponsors being DEFRA and the Crown Estate, in a bid to encourage organisations as well as individuals to get involved in cleaning up the nations' beaches. SECTA chairman Frank Werkmeister says that everyone who turned out in May for the pre season clean up at Hannafore enjoyed the experience, particularly the children who were very enthusiastic. 'I believe this sends out a very important message about caring for the environment,' he said. Anyone wishing to help on Sunday should just turn up by the Coastguard Station on Marine Drive at 2pm, with rubber gloves and sensible footwear. Bin bags will be provided. Under 17 year olds must be accompanied by an adult. Those wishing to help at Seaton can also just come along or if you wish contact Louise on 01503 262532.
