JUST under a 100 people took the opportunity to learn about the new licensing laws by visiting the Caradon Council information van recently parked on Buller Quay, East Looe. It was part of a public consultation in conjunction with the Looe Town Forum, and people were able to fill in a questionnaire which came up with 79 per cent of those who did so, saying they were against 24 hour licenses. If however, 24 hour licenses were in operation, an emphatic 100 per cent said there should be an enforceable drugs policy, with 80.2 per cent saying there should be no drinks promotions outside licensed premises. To the question which asked should the council require noise assessments to be carried out and submitted for premises to be open after 11pm, or for events that are held in the open air, a total of 97.5 per cent were in favour of this measure. As to the question of there being a minimum age where gambling and or adult entertainment was taking place on premises, 92. 6 per cent answered yes. Most believed the minimum age should be somewhere between the ages of 17-21. The town forum still has some questionnaires to come back which were handed out, and all the results will be collated before being sent back to Caradon in a final form at the end of the consultation period in a couple of weeks time.
