Looe Bay has a unique setting, high cliffs overlooking an island, visually stunning from almost any vantage point.

The proposal is to alter that aspect.

Mr Newton (Harbour Chairman) suggests that Looe has gone down market and needs upgrading to attract a (we assume) better class of holidaymaker! Hardly politically correct of Mr Newton!

If we can imagine an outer harbour crammed with yachts, what amenities are going to be offered the crews of these yachts? Would they want 'Hello Sailor' hats and innumerable ships pasties or would they want something better? At present Looe's infrastructure offers nothing better. How large an area would the outer harbour cover? Mr Billy Hocking (Chairman Looe Fishermans Protection) suggests a wall from the Horestone to the Island!

'Objective One Funding' now that's a potential Pandora's Box. Could Cornwall be regretting some of the schemes to come out of it in fifty years time?

If I may make one last point, the present day holidaymaker (Down-market or not) is Looe's bread and butter and certainly deserve better treatment by those who benefit from them. A comprehensive leisure complex for visitors and locals alike would be a good way to spend Objective One money.

Whatever the outcome we should all think very carefully before altering irrevocably our wonderful bay.
