Visiting 70 pubs in three days? You’re having a laugh…

Actually, having a laugh is exactly what David and Carole Chapple will be doing as they undertake their pub marathon this weekend.

And laughter’s a topic they know lots about – they’re big fans of comedy, which formed a large part of David’s official world record set in 2014 at the Edinburgh Fringe for the most performances seen in one season, 304 in 27 days.

Now the perennial fund-raisers, from Saltash, are looking to break a new record this bank holiday weekend, visiting 70 St Austell Brewery pubs in Cornwall across the three days to raise money for Mind, a mental health charity.

Starting off at 10am from St Austell Brewery today, the pair will take in pubs as far west as the Star in St Just and along the north coast up to the St Agnes Hotel on Saturday, kicking off at the Lemon Arms in Mylor on Sunday before heading up via 23 pubs to the Seven Stars in St Austell.

The final day will see David and Carole, who works at Liskeard Community College, starting out at the Earl of Chatham in Lostwithiel, taking in another 23 pubs through Wadebridge and Liskeard before finishing off at the Who’d Have Thought It Inn at St Dominick.

It’s all part of the couple’s 70707 challenge.

David and Carole have been raising money for Mind for many years because David has had depression.
