A VILLAGE has raised more than £11,000 for the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust after it helped in the rescue of a local man injured in a motorcycle accident.
An event has been held in Lanreath to celebrate the total which has been collected in the last year.
The collection followed a serious motorcycle accident involving Glenn Northcott where the Cornwall Air Ambulance was scrambled to help local first responders from the St John Ambulance.
Paramedics Iain Hooper and Nick Rigg, part of the six-man team on the Cornwall Air Ambulance, stabilised Glenn's condition at the roadside, from where he was flown to receive emergency treatment in Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.
Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust (CAAT) manager Paula Hichens said: 'There are many factors why everyone was able to gather together and watch Glenn present us with a cheque, not least everyone who played a part in his rescue, the medical teams in hospital, and Glenn's own determination to get better. But there is no doubt that the valuable time saved by using an air ambulance helicopter made a big difference in this case.'
Glenn's mum Hilary has been leading the fundraising activities, inspiring everyone in the community to get involved.
Glenn's colleagues from Valtra Tractors raised almost half of the money, with the product support manager David Jefferson being crew car for Alan Jones, who rode his BMW Dakar 650 around the dealerships in the South West region collecting cash along the way.
Recently, a visit was organised for Glenn and his mum to the air ambulance helicopter at RAF St Mawgan where they met paramedic Mick McLaghlan.
