POLPERRO is gearing up for the village's 18th arts and music festival, which this year takes place on June 15-23.

Nine days of music, fun and all things arty are set to entertain visitors as well as the local community.

As usual, the election of Polperro's new 'Lord Mayor,' a closely-guarded secret until the day, will herald the start of the festivities, along with the appearance of the Green Man.

Throughout the festival there will be lively music in the pubs as well as on Big Green, the community space near the harbour.

Already booked for Big Green are Land of the Giants, Fairplay, Gumbo Flyers, The Hijackers, Southern Jelly Band, Lucid, Dr Frankenstein and the Feelgood Factor, and the The Rock-A-Toons.

Special events include a 'Foody Day,' arts and crafts, a dog show, Zumba dancing and bingo on the green, a village fete, a school day and a carnival.

There is also a tradition of morris dancers from all over Cornwall and Devon adding colour to the festival and they usually visit for both weekends.

On Sunday, June 16, there will be a classical concert by The Divertimento String Quartet in the Methodist chapel.

There are two church services on both festival Sundays on Big Green and, on the first Sunday, the Bishop of Truro, the Rt Rev Tim Thornton will be in attendance.
