THE village of St Mellion could be one of two trial sites for average speed cameras in Cornish communities, it has been revealed.

Around 100 villagers attended a meeting at which representatives of Cornwall Council discussed a range of possible traffic improvements to the community, funded by more than £100,000 provided as a result of a Section 106 planning agreement with the St Mellion International Resort.

A number of possible projects were put to the meeting and residents have been asked to prioritise their choices.

Parish clerk Helen Dowdall said the meeting had been positive and that it had been revealed that St Mellion could be one of two communities in the county to trial the use of average speed cameras as a means of reducing vehicle speeds. She said the parish council was keen to follow up this possibility as St Mellion had been campaigning for many years for a bypass but accepted this would be a long way down the line.
