A VILLAGE is bucking the trend this coming bonfire night – by reinstating the bonfire.

Rilla Mill has held a bonfire night and fireworks display for around 50 years. But several years ago the decision was taken to ditch the bonfire because of concerns over the insurance requirements, said chairman of the village hall committee Andrew Davy.

‘But after talking to the fire officer, it turned out to be more simple than we thought.’

In previous years, Rilla Mill has always staged its firework display the week after bonfire night, so as not to coincide with a display in Callington. However, this year the Rilla Mill event will be on Saturday, October 31. Gates will open at 6pm with the bonfire lit at 6.45pm, and fireworks at 7.30pm.

With a barbecue and hot drinks available, and live music to follow at the Manor House Inn, an enjoyable family night is promised, says Mr Davy.
