CORNWALL AND DEVON LEAGUE

Saltash's miserable season continued as they were well beaten by a more clinical Okehampton side who scored six tries to the Ashes' nil.

The Okes started on the front foot, with Saltash conceding a series of penalties, and the hosts took the lead in the eighth minute thanks to a penalty from Lee Carey.

However, which was cancelled out by a penalty for Saltash through full-back Steve Down after 11 minutes.

The visitors stepped on the gas , and a well-worked move put Carey in for a try under the sticks, which he converted to move the Devon side in front at 10-3 after 21 minutes.

That advantage was extended further just four minutes later as prop Nick Martin was driven over from short range for Carey to convert for a 17-3 score, which is how it stayed until half-time.

At the turn around, Okehampton began in similar fashion with a Carey penalty in the 42nd minute to go 20-3 ahead.

The Ashes worked hard in most phases and found it difficult to get any momentum with their scrum very much on the back foot, so any attacks were easily dealt with.

In the 58th minute, with a strong surge from the visiting scrum, replacement wing Gareth Espin was put in on the wide right for a try, converted by Carey to push the lead out to 27-3. The pressure on the home scrum increased as Okehampton were awarded a penalty try in the 65th minute, with Carey adding the conversion for a 34-3 lead.

The visitors added two tries in the last ten minutes through centre Luke Honeychurch and left-wing Tom Powell, with Honeychurch adding the conversion to Powell's try for a 46-3 final score.
