Two youth projects near Callington have won awards from the North Cornwall Community Chest fund run by North Cornwall District Council. The community chest offers grants of between £100 and £2,000 on a first come, first served basis for projects that have total costs of no more than £5,000. Among the projects awarded grants this month was Stoke Climsland Scout Group, who received £971.40 towards a new marquee. This will benefit the whole group, including the cubs, scouts and explorer scouts. Various other events and organisations in the Stoke Climsland area will also benefit, such as the Whiteford Festival, church fete, flower show and school fete. A further £2,000 went to Luckett Swings Committee towards the cost of purchasing new play equipment for the children in the village. Children and parents have requested more facilities in the area, and the local community have worked together to provide this.
