TWO highly skilled IT graduates from Cornwall College Saltash have been successfully chosen to work for the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) this year. Jason and Andrew, who have just completed a Higher National Diploma in computing, were specially selected from more than 40 applicants who were competing for 11 training positions. Jason and Andrew will become subject matter experts within one of two roles, Intelligence Collection Systems Officer and Intelligence Development Officer. Jason (21) said: 'When the representatives from GCHQ visited us and presented the job, I was immediately excited at the thought of working for such a high-profile organisation. 'I am really looking forward to joining GCHQ in October and can't wait to pursue my career further.' GCHQ is an intelligence and security organisation – a civil service department that reports to the Foreign Secretary, and works closely with the UK's other intelligence agencies (commonly known as MI5 and MI6). Primary customers are the Ministry of Defence, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and law enforcement authorities, as well as a wide range of other Government departments. Catharine Seidel, curriculum area manager for HE computing at Cornwall College Saltash, said: 'I am very proud of Jason and Andrew, they have both worked really hard during their course and to have secured employment with such a high-profile organisation is a true indication of their dedication and academic ability.'
