FINE weather brought out high numbers of charity dippers and spectators at the Torpoint and Rame Peninsula Lions Club 10th annual New Year's Day dip at Cawsand.
More than 100 people registered to enter the water, hoping to raise thousands of pounds for their own and Lions' charities.
Groups and individuals in fancy dress registered at Kingsand Community Hall and there were competitions for the best-dressed people. MP Sheryll Murray and Lions president Richard Pymm did the judging before everyone paraded through the twin villages to Cawsand beach, where Millbrook town crier Clive O'Shau-nessy announced the winners to around 1,000 spectators standing on The Bound and the road overlooking the beach.
There was a countdown to 12.30pm before the dippers ran down the beach into the sea. Some dippers were quickly out again, whilst others enjoyed a short swim before returning to shore. All participants received a bowl of soup from the Lions.
Lions secretary Dave Rosson said: 'It was another successful dip – our 10th anniversary and nearly 120 people went in the water. They all raise money for their own charities and the Lions. This event goes from strength to strength.'
Winners of the best small team were Well's Angels, comprising three generations. Connie Pryn, 80, from Sheviock (centre), was joined by her daughter Mary Wells, from Saltash, and granddaughter Amanda
