Supporters of locally-based charity Ellie's Haven are expecting a big turnout on Easter Sunday to welcome long-distance runner Alan Rowe at the end of his triple-marathon fundraiser. Alan will be setting off on Good Friday from St Paul's Church in his home town of Honiton, and will aim to complete the equivalent of three marathons in three days on his route to Looe, finishing on the seafront there on Easter Sunday. At the finishing post there will be stalls, entertainment, face painting, an Easter hat competition and a barbecue from midday onwards, and as many people as possible are being asked to come between 3-4pm to welcome him. He will be accompanied by local runners on the last stretch of his journey. 'Although I've tried a few mad things in my time, I've never attempted this kind of effort before and frankly it's going to be one of the toughest events that I've tackled,' said Alan, who says that as well as raising funds for the project to provide a specialist holiday care centre for terminally ill children, he hopes his effort will raise the profile of the charity at the same time. 'If little Ellie can endure what she has in her three years, then I can try for three days. 'Surveys have indicated that the best part of 6,000 families here in Cornwall and Devon would benefit from the quality of life that Ellie's Haven will provide at what is, as I'm sure you can imagine, a most stressful time.'
