A Cornish family will be making history when they set sail this weekend.
Pete Goss (pictured) forms part of a crew on the lugger 'Spirit of Mystery' that will be setting sail on Sunday and will follow in the wake of the original 'Mystery' who sailed for Australia in 1854 with a crew of Cornishmen who were in search of a better life.
Like the crew on the original voyage, this will be a family affair with Pete's younger brother Andy, his youngest son, Elliot, 14, and his brother-in-law, Mark Maidment.
The ship will be fitted with a satellite tracking device allowing visitors to Pete's website, http://www.petegoss.com">www.petegoss.com, to track their progress as well as read log entries which will be updated daily.
Despite having some of the latest technology at their fingertips, the crew will use the stars to navigate on their voyage.
Children at the Cornwall Playing for Success Charity, where Pete is a founding trustee, will be paying particular attention to the crew's progress and learning about local and social history as well as boat building and navigation.
Pete said: 'This project has been a long time in the making and now we can't wait to set sail.'
He points out that this should not be thought of as a race but a reflection of the achievement by the original crew.
He added: 'Nothing should detract from the amazing feat of seamanship of those brave Cornishmen. This project is designed to shine a light on their achievement and raise awareness and funds for Cornwall Playing for Success.'
