A museum suffered thousands of pounds worth of damage when fire ripped through its roof. The blaze at Callington Heritage Centre on Sunday morning is thought to have been started by an electrical fault. Lynda Small, centre chairman, said most of the museum's artifacts had been saved and it was fortunate that the fire moved upwards and did not burn items below. She said: 'We were extremely fortunate because some of the mayor's artifacts were stored underneath the electrical box but the fire just went straight up and out,' she said. 'I was stood there watching the flames and I never expected to find anything but we managed to save 95 per cent of the items which, considering the blaze, is a miracle.' The museum now needs to raise funds to get specialist restoration for damaged items. Callington Town Band is having to look for a new venue to store equipment and for weekly practices.
