Liskeard town council has voted to to co-opt a new member following the resignation of Liskeard North member Trevor Shearing, who has moved from the area.

As no-one requested a poll to elect a new councillor by the January 18 deadline the council has been spared the expense of a by-election. This would have had to be held if ten local electors had requested it, and would have cost around £2,000.

Those wishing to fill the vacancy should apply to town clerk, Brenda Furse, by February 4.

Town councillors will select the new member by interview should there by more than one applicant.
