Santa in visit
FATHER Christmas - bearing a striking resemblance to the Mayor of Torpoint, Stan Martin - will be visiting a charity day in Torpoint tomorrow (Saturday, December 1).
The festive event is being organised in aid of the mayor's charity, the Chestnut Appeal which aims to raise money to set up a state-of-the-art unit at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth for prostrate cancer patients.
Mayoress Christine Martin is organising the day which will run from 10am to 4pm in the Torpoint Silver Band Hut. There will be stalls, cakes, tea and coffee, mince pies and cream, a Christmas raffle and a guess the name of the doll competition.
Co-op signs
THE Co-op has applied for planning permission for changes to the signs at the front and rear of its building at 53 Fore Street in Torpoint town centre.
Lighting set
to improve
TORPOINT town councillors have heard that Caradon District Council is being recommended to improve the lighting in the Trelawney Rise and Trelawney Way area of the town.
Residents have been calling for improvements to the lighting in the locality which has been affected by vandalism and other incidents.
Cliff works
close path
PART of a footpath on the Rame Peninsula has been closed while work to stabilise cliffs takes place.
A stretch of path more than half a kilometre long between Penlee and Rame Head will be closed to walkers for around three months while Caradon District Council works on the cliffs. Pedestrians can use other paths to avoid the closed section.
