A LARGE procession will be making its way through the centre of Torpoint this weekend.

The procession will be headed by the Torpoint Silver Band who will be followed by a naval contingent from HMS Raleigh.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Torpoint, Stan and Christine Martin, who are in office for a second successive year, will walk behind the naval contingent in the parade down Antony Road and Harvey Street and on into Fore Street to the Cornerstone Church.
The new deputy mayor, Mrs Diane Curran, whose consort is Mrs Julie Elworthy, is due to be present in the parade along with fellow town councillors and civic dignitaries from the Caradon district and beyond. The Commodore of HMS Raleigh, Commodore Laurie Brokenshire, and his wife, Ethel, will also be guests of the mayor and mayoress.
Representatives from various organisations in the town, including the Royal British Legion, the Torpoint and Rame Peninsula Lions Club and the Torpoint and District Twinning Association, will be present as will members of young people's groups including ambulance and nursing cadets, scouts, guides and brownies.
The civic service at 11am will be led by the mayor's chaplain, Viv Martyn. The Rev Margaret Anderson, the minister at Cornerstone, will also be taking part in the service.
During the service, the annual Torpoint Citizen of the Year Award will be presented, as will the town's People of Courage Award.
Secrecy surrounds the identity of the winners of these awards.
Following the service, there will be a reception at the Council Chambers.
"We are enjoying our second year and looking forward to Sunday," said Mrs Martin.
Mr Martin has thanked town councillors for their support during his first year in office.
He acknowledged that differing opinions had been expressed over issues facing the council but emphasised that the councillors had "got on with the job".
