Councillor Eric Parkin urged the Town Council to write to Caradon District Council over the way the funding for the sports hall is being treated. He said: 'Phillipa Thomas from Caradon said the hall needed £30,000 each year for the first three years to get it going and we are being short- changed. 'Caradon is recommending £15,000 for the first year and £10,000 for the next two years. This is not acceptable. 'The YMCA is willing to manage the hall and as a charity, should not be expected to subsidise it. 'The sports halls at Liskeard and Saltash are looking at £300,000 for restoration. 'I feel awkward standing here as a District Councillor. Torpoint and Rame area is the same size as Saltash. 'We pay council tax and are getting very little for it. It is short-changing the people of Torpoint. 'If we got the £30,000 each year, the YMCA could provide a much better set of activities for young and old alike. 'I know Caradon have got to make cuts, but this is not fair, it's indecent. I am extremely disappointed with its funding and we are aware of the disparities between the towns.' Other councillors echoed these sentiments with councillor Ivan Southworth even saying: 'Tell Caradon that Caradon does not finish at Trerulefoot. Tell them to come to Torpoint.' Deputy Mayor, Diane Curran said: 'I urge everyone to write to Caradon, not just the council, to show them how we feel.' The council unanimously voted to send a letter to Caradon pointing out the unfair treatment of Torpoint. Councillor Alan Brimacombe later stated that Caradon officers provided details of sports facility spending in the town compared to other towns. Three years ago the spending per head of population in Torpoint was 80p. For Saltash it was £7 and Liskeard £9. Councillor Brimacombe said: 'I have no reason to believe this has changed.'
