THE anxious wait was over for students yesterday as they ripped open their A-level results. There were scenes of joy at schools in South East Cornwall as teenagers discovered they had the results they needed to go to their favoured university.
One of the highest achievers in the county was star pupil James McTavish from Saltash.net Community School who will be studying maths at Cambridge University after achieving three A*s and three As.
Students at the school produced higher results than last year with a 99 per cent pass rate and 73 per cent getting A-C grades.
Headteacher at Saltash.net Community School Isobel Bryce said: 'I am so pleased that our A-level students have secured such high levels of success this year.
'They were a wonderful year group who not only committed themselves to their academic studies but who also contributed a great deal to the school and local community.'
There was a 98 per cent pass rate at Liskeard School and Community College.
