Looe Town Council is inviting residents to tell them, through the Cornish Times, who they think should be the port's Citizen of the Year 2000. And also, in recognition of what the mayor Dave Bryan, says are some wonderful young people, there is also to be a Young Citizen of the Year, up to the age of 18. He says this could be for some outstanding achievement or maybe they have simply been a good friend to someone in need. All nominees must live in the Looe area.

The award was resurrected last year by Councillor Bryan, who had great pleasure in presenting a new shield to the first recipient, long distance runner and ambassador for the town, Marian Sutton.

Councillors will make the final decision and the awards will be presented at the town council meeting on Monday, March 6.

Nominations for both honours, stating briefly the reasons, should be handed in to the Cornish Times reception office or posted to The Cornish Times, Looe Citizen of The Year, Great Place, Liskeard, PL14 4BQ, by Friday, February 4. Just give us the following information:
