We would like to thank the Cornish Times and Councillor Lori Reid for highlighting the problems which the new leases proposed by Cornwall Council will bring to all the traders in the Cattle Market, Liskeard.

The response from the spokeswoman from Cornwall Council, reported in last week's Cornish Times, is disingenuous and bears little relevance (or accuracy) to what the new leases propose. The legal fees alone demanded by Cornwall Council for altering the leases are in excess of £2,000 which is a huge burden for the market traders.

The main beneficiary from the new proposals will be Cornwall Council (increased revenue, reduction in costs etc). While it may be reasonable for Cornwall Council to rationalise its procedures and costs, this should not be at the expense of small traders.
