Seven rather large dwarfs have been taking the town by storm of late - thanks to the dramatic expertise of the Liskeard Lions.

The Lions have been presenting Snow White and the Seven Rather Large Dwarfs in the public hall with great aplomb - three nights being set aside free for senior citizens and a fourth night for the paying public.

Despite the influence of the 'flu the performances went on, and were greeted with great enthusiasm. Gwen Hutchings not only helped with costumes and led the make-up team each night she also stepped in at very short notice to play the part of Bossy on the Thursday night and then Happy on Saturday night.

The script, which featured Dame Vesta Currie as housekeeper to the seven dwarfs who work down Caradon mine, was written by Pam Andrew who also starred as Tim Buctoo, son of the deceased mine owner. The producer, Philip Hunt, doubled as Ponso an effeminate Red Indian who was 'pardner' to an ex-bank manager aptly called the Loan Ranger (Richard Brown). Terry Sully was a marvellous dame as Vesta Currie, who encourages Tim to propose to Snow White (Della Hartnell) and who herself turns down a proposal of marriage from the Loan Ranger (an old flame of hers).

Later she relents, and admits she has reached desperation stakes.

The wicked stepmother Barbara Carthorse - played with brilliant malice by Margaret Sully - tries to poison Snow White with red berries, and also strives to have the dwarfs sacked from their mine jobs. She ends the show as the dwarfs' new housekeeper, however.

Catching the eye were the skeleton dancers - Rebecca and Hannah Mitchell, Samantha Snell and Leah and Krista Thomas - plus Thomas and Andrew Sheer who helped make up the seven junior dwarfs. Also bringing the house down was a job centre scene in which the dwarfs perform the 'Hot Stuff' routine from the Full Monty film.

Thanks went to all who helped, both off and on the stage, those who helped with transport and served refreshments to the senior citizens etc, Liskeard and district operatic society, The Fountain Hotel, Double Forte Stage Productions, Phase Two, Liskeard drama group, and Caradon district and Liskeard town councils for their grants, and those who supported the show.

Other members of the cast were as follows: Villager (Kathleen Harris), Sneezy (Joy McPherson), Grumpy (Marion Brown), Happy (Barbara Hunt), Bossy (Brian McPherson), Blobby (Ian Sheer), Dopey (John Gliddon), Tucky (Geoffrey Harris), Mirror (Pat Goldsworthy), Job Centre clerk (Kathleen Harris) and Villagers (Doreen Hamlyn, Hazel Parsons, Angela Sheer).
