Council workers don't always get a lot of praise, but Mrs Joyce Gundry of Hannafore Lane, West Looe, thinks Looe's road cleaner Keith Maddox deserves some. She wrote to the Cornish Times to say how hard Keith works, and always keeps smiling.

She says: 'I am writing to extend my thanks to our road cleaner Keith. This gentleman is always smiling, always has a cheery word and most of all, tries every day to clean up everywhere. It is also his job apparently to clean up Hannafore Lane. Here I walk my dog everyday and I am sorry to say there are those dog owners who do NOT clean up after their animals, even if they do their business just by the dog bin.

I just think that we seem to expect too much of those people whose responsibility it is to look after our beautiful town.. Keith cleans up regularly, is also cheerful whilst doing this job, and I am very grateful we have men like him here in Looe.

I just had to express my thanks to Keith and in fact to all those whose job it is to keep Looe clean and tidy.'
