A TEAM of businessmen from Saltash are set to compete in a gruelling powerboat race around Great Britain. The No Worries race team is made up of four neighbours and friends who all live in the same road in Saltash. They are set to take part in the 2008 Round Britain Offshore Powerboat race which will start at Portsmouth tomorrow. Powerboat driver Kevin Baskott runs his own company supplying specialist electrical equipment and has primarily been involved in preparing the boat electrically and mechanically. Navigator Simon Baker is a keen competitor on the racing circuit, with an impressive record of wins. He has been a boatbuilder for more than 20 years. Co-driver David Young runs his own group of companies in Plymouth which covers from commercial property development to IT and business continuity services. He has also done offshore powerboat cruising. Technician Mathew Smith, who is a property developer, will see this as his second major challenge after competing the Cannonball run in 2004. Simon, who is a director of Multimarine Composite in Millbrook, is looking forward to going around Britain, for a second time. 'I've been around Britain in a sailboat before, but this will be my first time in a powerboat, which will definitely be a challenge,' he said. Tough 'The race is going to be very tough and our success will depend on the weather, the equipment on board and, of course, the human body.' The team of four, which has been training for around six months and will be racing to raise funds for St Luke's Hospice in Plymouth. The boats will visit Plymouth tomorrow as the first leg of the race comes to an end.
