LUX Park Leisure Centre in Liskeard was packed for the presentation of awards to swimmers who took part in the British Heart Foundation’s annual Janet James Memorial Swimathon back in November.
Keith Richards, chairman of the Liskeard Branch of the BHF welcomed everybody.
The swimmers had raised £4,774.46 in total.
Of this, £4,055.33 was for BHF and £719.13 was raised for a range of other charitable causes.
The Mayor of Liskeard, Phil Seeva, said this had been the third year he had been asked to present the awards, a role he enjoyed, especially seeing so many people getting enjoyment out of such a healthy activity.
He said while he had an X-Box at home, it was important to have a balance between physical activity and playing such virtual games.
He was urged by his fellow town councillors, who had entered a team in the swimathon, to join them in the pool at next year’s event.
See the current edition of the Cornish Times for a picture of the swimmers at the presentation.
