St Tudy are a useful side, they have some skilled players, but this time they were thwarted at every turn. On a difficult pitch where skipper Sam Deacon led Nathan Rice and Tom Furnell bravely followed. They harried and they tackled and soon the midfield was theirs. The home side tried the flanks but again could find no way through. Cultured Joseph Head was there, reading play well, tidying thoughtfully to both left and right.

Chances were difficult to make and even harder to take but as half time approached it was the visitors who were looking the more likely. With just seconds to the whistle Chris Warren swooped in from the right. The angle wasn't good but his aim was true, and the shot precision. Liskeard were a goal up and on the play, due reward.

Regrouping during the interval the hosts then mustered an early second half surge, only for it to founder on that same rock. Time went by and it was still the same old story. The fundamental things had to apply. Do or die it was. Play it Sam, we shouted. And yes, for the second goal it was his corner swerving wickedly into the net... and for the third, his run and his belter of a shot.

"We won it on spirit," said the delighted Liskeard manager. "Whenever St Tudy looked like putting something together we tackled them to pieces."
