STUDENTS and staff donned their capes and scarves and arrived ready for a day of magical, inspired fun as a school celebrated Harry Potter Book Night.
Everyone at Callington Community College entered into the spirit of the day, said principal Wendy Ainsworth.
Starting out with a scavenger hunt for Year 7s and 8s, the activities continued with “Quidditch” in PE, and later, students tested their knowledge of all things Harry Potter in a quiz to gain points for their respective houses.
A presentation by the Screech Owl Sanctuary rounded off the day in school – and students were encouraged to carry on at home, by sending in photos of themselves reading one of the famed JK Rowling stories.
“It was our first large event since the onset of COVID,” said Ms Ainsworth.
“Staff and students were in high spirits throughout the day and well into the evening.
“It was an action-packed day, but worth every minute of work that went into putting it together, because it was just lovely to see the children en masse taking part in an extra curricular event and enjoying every minute of it – and of course, at its heart was the intention to promote the joy of reading.
“The final means of earning points for their houses was to send in a photograph of themselves reading from a Harry Potter book when they got home.
“In some ways, this was the most rewarding part of the day, seeing the photos ping in one after the other of children engaged in reading.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff who put a wonderful event together and all the children whose positive contributions made the day such a success.”
