A GROUP of students returned home last month after taking part in an expedition around India. Teachers Jim Rogers and Isy Lindsell, and student Jos Kirkman (17), from Callington Community College, set off with the rest of the group from Ridgeway School, Plymouth, in July after training for many months in team building and navigation skills. The expedition took them on a gruelling one month trek through India to areas including Manali, a Tibetan school, and Phirtse La in the Himalayas, which was the highest point of the trek at 17,500ft. The trek aimed to give most of the decisions to the pupils and they had to buy food for 26 people for 14 days, as well as organise staff and money. Mr Rogers was extremely impressed with the dedication of the students. He said: 'The team completed all aspects of the challenges of travelling in India with a maturity and capability that makes them a credit to the schools. I am still amazed at how well they all coped with the demands, both emotional and physical, of travelling in one of the most hectic, poor, dirty and dangerous countries in the world. They all deserve to be congratulated on their achievements.'
