Liskeard School and Community College has entered a national competition to invest real cash in the stock market. The Shares4Schools competition gives Year 12 students the opportunity to learn about the real world of business, bringing Business Studies and Economics to life. Starting with an investment fund of £1,500, the students are competing in a national as well as regional league to achieve the highest fund value over the period of the competition. Regardless of their final position, the school will retain the final value of their investment to roll over into the next year's competitions, or to use on specific projects perhaps improving resources. Over the period of the competition teams use a range of resources, such as support from the competitions organisers, The Share Centre, newspapers, specialist publications and the Internet, coupled with their instincts, to choose shares they believe will give them the greatest growth. Investment decisions will be made by the team and carried out by either of their two nominated teachers. The National Winners will receive the Shares4Schools trophy and will take part in a special winner's tour of the City of London, including visiting a City dealing room, lunch with City commentators and Fund Managers. The winners of the Regional leagues will receive 'Regional Winners' trophies. Commenting on this year's competition, Shares4Schools' Ian Benning said: 'We welcome Liskeard School and Community College into this year's competition. With 32 schools entered, and very positive feedback coming from students and teachers, this year's competition looks set be a great success, giving Year 12 students the opportunity to learn about and experience investment in the real world.'
