THE first adults' grading examination for 2009 saw six jujitsu students from the Launceston and Tavistock clubs go all out for their first grading, watched over by Umberto Bergonzini sensei, third degree black belt.

For Greame Baxter, Kevin Semple, Ed Beachus and Tim Clarkson, it was their first time, and although nervous, they performed extremely well, passing and achieving the next level – eighth kyu, which is represented by a yellow belt.

Angela Bowden went on to receive her seventh kyu (orange belt), and for Mark Turner, more was expected as he went on to receive his last brown belt, and now is only one grading away from the coverted first dan black belt.

Bergonzini was extremely pleased by the performance and character demonstrated by all the students.

The club meets on Mondays at St Stevens Church Hall on Roydon Road, Launceston, and from Thursday, April 23, will be starting classes for children and intermediates (11-16), starting at 5.45pm.

Anyone interested in joining can contact Robert on 07816 191047 or come to one of the classes.
