Students have presented a cheque to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) for £145.

The early years students at Duchy College, Stoke Climsland, said they were inspired by the atmosphere and positivity of the staff and volunteers on a visit to one of the charity’s hospices, Little Harbour, at St Austell.

They decided to raise money for the cause by selling memory stars and unwanted Christmas presents.

Ellie Eastley, who is studying for a BTEC first diploma level two in children’s care, learning and development, said: ‘We enjoyed visiting Little Harbour. It was an eye-opening experience which encouraged us to raise money ourselves for such a good cause.’

The Cornwall College Group, which includes Duchy College, works closely with CHSW, with other campuses also taking part in fund-raising.

Students at Cornwall College Saltash have this year raised £250 for the charity.
