Dobwalls visited their bogey team Newquay youth on Sunday to whom they had lost every previous meeting. In freezing conditions Dobwalls elected to play down the sloping pitch in the first half and taking the game to the home side lead on 10 minutes when a Steve Marks piledriver flew into the net from the edge of the penalty area.

Their joy was short lived as Newquay soon equalised when Dobwalls failed to clear a corner and the ball was driven through a crowded six yard box past the unsighted stand-in keeper Dean Starr. Dobwalls pressed forward playing their trademark passing football and soon both Kane Wilson and Matt Lindsay came close. Just before half time the tigerish Lindsay chased what looked like a lost cause to the touchline, stopped the ball and whipped a cross past the Newquay keeper for Kane Wilson to finish with a diving header.

Early in the second half Dobwalls increased their lead when Phil Benney picked up a loose ball just outside the penalty area and drove the ball home with a left foot shot. Dobwalls were now becoming more confident by the minute and despite playing up the slope continually attacked the Newquay goal. Matt Lindsay made the scoreline 4-1 when he sprinted through the centre from deep to beat the Newquay keeper.

Minutes later a Newquay forward burst through the defence and shot past the onrushing keeper only for Daryl Hick to scramble the ball off the line for a corner. Just when it looked like it was to be Dobwalls' day Newquay scored two goals to bring the score back to 4-3 with only two minutes to go. However the whole of the Dobwalls side redoubled their efforts and dug in to to hold on for a memorable victory which they celebrated like they had won the F.A cup.

Man of the match was awarded deservedly to Matt Lindsay. Dobwalls next match is this Sunday 23rd at home to St Columb with an 11.00 am kick off.
