Why was today’s storm not named?
In a statement, the Met Office explained that it is trialling a system of naming storms in order to heighten awareness of dangers posed.
The office said: ’Storms are named by the Met Office when medium or high impacts are forecast as a result of high winds. As this weather system was not expected to meet this criteria it was not named.’
The hashtag #stormwithnoname was circulating widely on social media all day.
