HMS Raleigh recruits and other trainees will be treated to their hristmas dinner today when they will test the pudding which is traditional stirred by the commanding officer and youngest sailor at HMS Raleigh has taken place (pictured).
Captain Rob Bellfield and 16-year-old trainee engineering technician Connor Robertson took a turn at stirring the mix with a wooden paddle at the naval base in Torpoint.
Chef manager Neil Harvey said: ‘The proof of the pudding is always in the eating and that will be on December 9.’
Connor said: ‘I wasn’t expecting to be asked to stir a Christmas pudding when I joined the Navy, so it came as a bit of a surprise.’
By tradition, Christmas dinner on board ship is served to the crew by the officers. This custom will be followed at the base.
