A TOWN Forum hopes that a meeting tomorrow (Thurs 6 ) with Highways England will be a step towards sorting out some problematic steps.

In Liskeard, the path that joins Old Road at Moorswater to New Road and the town centre is much used. But a short flight of steps at the beginning of the path are a barrier to those with prams, people using wheelchairs or mobility scooters, or anyone with limited mobility.

The Town Forum has been collating people’s feedback on the steps and will be meeting with a representative of Highways England, which is the responsible authority, as Old Road was the trunk road prior to the creation of the Dobwalls bypass.

Among those limited by the steps are the residents of the Coombe House care home, which is a short distance from Moorswater.

Owner Ann Gray said that walks are very important to the residents and carers: walking is used rather than medication to calm people with restless dementia.

’Walking up the hill into Liskeard from Moorswater is treacherous and a very steep climb, with no pavement, fast cars and a blind bend at the top as you emerge into Old Road,’ she said.

’ The other option is to turn right, join the path beside the A38 and walk back into Liskeard along New Road. However, there are steps here and these are impossible for a wheelchair or anyone with limited mobility.’

’We are therefore limited to walking along the towpath and turning round and walking back.’

Anyone wishing to give feedback should visit the Liskeard Town Forum Facebook page.
