A Liskeard school visitor, towards the end of the last term, was Rev Michael Woosley, area representative for the Leprosy Mission.

Rev Woosley visited the R E department, talking to various classes and explaining the work of the mission in combating leprosy in such countries like Nepal and India. He talked about the stigma still surrounding the disease in Asia and yet by early recognition it is curable with multi-drug therapy. Unfortunately due to fear and ignorance and a lack of readily available health care, the disease continues to strike and permanently maim its victims.

The mission continues to raise money for its work through the schools and local community's collection of used stamps. Mr Woosley was able to take away a huge number which will be sorted and sold on to stamp collectors and buyers and turned into funds.

Head of Year seven and R E teacher, Gwyneth McLoughlin handed over hundreds of stamps on behalf of the community, aided by two year nine boys, Ian Gale and Trevor Osborne. She said if any members of the public are in a position to save postage stamps, cutting an inch border around the stamp rather than soaking them off, she would be delighted to receive them through the school office.
