A day care centre for adults with learning disabilities has suspended two members of staff after it was alleged they inappropriately restrained a client. The two have been suspended on full pay from Morley Tamblyn Lodge, Liskeard, after a client began to attack other users and staff. It is then alleged that the two staff members used inappropriate or undue restraint on the individual. Cornwall County Council said there had been an incident at Morley Tamblyn Lodge which is being investigated. However, some parents of clients who attend the centre have come to the defence of the staff calling the suspensions an 'over-reaction'. 'The staff there are very caring, and I have nothing but praise for the way they look after my daughter,' said parent John Hilton. Mr Hilton said he is concerned for the safety of his daughter but because of inappropriately placed clients, not staff. 'It is something that should never have happened,' said Mr Hilton. 'The individual was inappropriately placed. The system needs looking at because he should have been placed in a more secure environment.' An independent arbiter for Cornwall County Council is investigating the incident. The two members of staff were interviewed by a panel, appointed by Cornwall County Council's adult social care department, on Wednesday. It is unclear whether a decision has yet been reached as Cornwall County Council declined to comment as the Cornish Times went to print.
