St Barnabas Hospital's cook for the last 32 years, Joan Chubb, retired in June but the farewell party was held in the day centre last week. Present and past members of the hospital staff gathered to present the 66-year-old with gifts. Sue Lloyd, the sister in charge, said that Mrs Chubb had seen many changes since she started in 1975 as a holiday relief worker, when the kitchen staff prepared and cooked the food. Now it arrives frozen and pre-packed. Sister Lloyd presented a gold necklace, bracelet and gift tokens and said that Mrs Chubb not only looked after patients but also the staff of the hospital. Those attending the evening included retired sister in charge Sheila Muskett (1984-89), former nursing auxiliary Hazel Jewell, and the present senior general services assistant Janet Ellicott. Mrs Chubb's daughter, Wendy Hillborne, still works in the hospital kitchen.
