MEN'S SOUTH

WEST ONE

Caradon 3

Penzance 3

This toughly-fought contest saw the home side go one up early in the game when Neil Spencer rattled home a convincing shot in the first few minutes.

It was not all going to go Caradon's way, however, and the visitors pulled back to make the scores level going into the break.

A foot-to-ball coordination problem from Ian Chard led to a short spell on the bench – but Caradon maintained discipline to prevent Penzance capitalising on their advantage.

Injury then plagued the hosts, as an off-the-ball challenge ended Martin Davies' game due to a knee injury.

With no substitutes remaining, and seconds before half-time, a tackle during a short corner saw Caradon defender Ross Williams take a punishing strike to the knee from an attacking Penzance forward; his exit from the game left Caradon one player short.

The start of the second period saw each side fielding ten players, after a visiting player was ordered to the bench by the umpires.

Penzance were next on the scoresheet from one of many short corners, sneaking the ball past the post to take them 2-1 up, only for a terrific first-time strike by Leon Farrow to draw Caradon again.

The visitors applied the pressure with numerous shots on goal and short corners, most of which were ably dealt with by the Caradon goalkeeper and Man of the Match Toby Riddle.

With the away team converting one of the short corners to go ahead, it took a concerted effort from Caradon and a flurry from Spencer to take them back to 3-3.

In the dying minutes, Caradon reverted to a full side when Davies overcame his injury to make up the numbers in a final attempt to snatch victory. It was not to be, though, and Caradon's point puts them in mid-table.
