A special service to remember those who have died from drug-related deaths will be held in Truro today.
Last year in Cornwall there were 32 drug related deaths. The stigma often attached to drug-related deaths can leave those mourning feeling different from other mourners, with the special Acorn service aiming to provide a way to bring people together.
In addition to the 32 people who lost their lives to substance misuse last year, there were a further 216 incidents where South West Ambulance Service administered naloxone to save the lives of those in opiate overdose.
This year’s service will be held at Truro Cathedral at 4pm today (Sptember 23).
The service will include personal reflections, music and readings from service users and drug treatment workers, a tailored service of remembrance and a tree of remembrance where messages can be written on paper oak leaves.
