A MOTHER who had pioneering medical treatment has given birth to a happy healthy boy. Lizzie Morgan of Liskeard gave birth to Dylan Perran (7lb 5.5oz) on Tuesday morning after a caesarian at Derriford Hospital. Proud mum Lizzie was the first in the region to have an intrauterine blood transfusion at the hospital, where blood was injected in to her anaemic baby in the womb. Without the new facility at Derriford, Lizzie would have had to travel to Bristol to have the life-saving treatment. Lizzie's caesarian after 38 weeks was the hospital's first as the result of the intrauterine transfusion. 'I feel really well, I don't even feel like I have had an operation,' said Lizzie. Doctor Ross Welch, Lizzie's consultant, said: 'I'm delighted to have a well mum and baby at the end. That's the best result in my job.' Dylan and Lizzie should be allowed to return home to a waiting family by the weekend.' Lizzie said: 'Dylan looks like his dad (James) and is a perfect little brother for my other son Zach – he is really excited. 'I'm so pleased with everything and everyone at Derriford has been fantastic.'
