CONCERT organisers are promising an evening of the sounds of spring as one of the region’s best-known orchestras makes its debut in Cornwall.
On Saturday April 21, Saltash Wesley Church will host The South West Philharmonia and Chorus, more than 125 performers of mixed voices and orchestra under the baton of their musical director Marcus Alleyne (pictured).
Marcus started his musical life at the age of 11 with piano tuition and as a chorister and he has trained with two well-known figures in the South East Cornwall musical world, baritone Jonathan Lewsey and Simon Ible of Peninsula Arts.
Marcus is associate director of music to the Sterts Theatre, Sounds Musical Theatre Company and the Loveny Male Voice Choir.
The concert in Saltash will be one of the South West Philharmonia’s concerts to precede the company’s visit to New York in November where they have been invited via Marcus to perform at Carnegie Hall.
Marcus is assisted by company accompanist Mark Smith, who is official accompanist of the Saltash Music Speech and Drama Festival.
The concert will feature multi-talented local singer, 11-year-old Amelia Writer.
The concert starts at 7.30pm.
