BODMIN..............................................1

Callington Town passed another major milestone at 4.15pm on Saturday when they equalled last season's total points haul with this impressive victory over bottom placed Bodmin Town at Ginsters Marshfield Parc.

Manager Ian Southcott has kept faith with his youth policy and they returned his trust in full as they gained full revenge for the controversial 4-3 defeat at Priory Parc before Christmas.

The fact that this match took place at all was a credit again to the backroom staff who worked tirelessly to get the surface presentable, and to the players and officials of both clubs who persuaded the officials who were remarkably looking at cancelling the game.

From the first minute, it was clear that this was not going to end up goalless and this was confirmed on seven minutes when the home side's new striking duo combined to break the deadlock. Seventeen year old Dominic Farris headed on and Chris Gerry raced clear and beat Charles West in the Bodmin goal for his third goal of the season.

Any thoughts though that Bodmin had come just to make up the numbers was soon consigned to the dustbin as the visitors, with a fare sprinkling of local youngsters in their side, battled back. Nick Dowling saw his shot deflected on 23 minutes but two minutes later, Bodmin were level. A cross from the left was only partially cleared by the otherwise impressive Wayne Wormald in the Callington goal and the ball fell nicely for Adrian Walton who scored into the unguarded net.

Farris could have regained the lead for the home side shortly afterwards but his shot, after Gerry had created the chance with a nifty cross from the left, was miscued and cleared. Mark Courts twice shot wide late in the first period but the home fans did not have to wait long after the break for Callington to hit the target again.

Just 18 seconds after the restart, Gerry returned the favour to his compatriot Farris and the teenager raced clear and calmly beat West from 10 yards out.

Gary Smith shot wide on 51 minutes and three minutes later Gerry missed a golden opportunity to increase the lead. Having beaten the ragged Bodmin offside trap, the 20 year old raced clear but in his one on one tussle with the keeper he rounded West but saw his shot go across the empty goal and clear.

However, Gerry more than made amends for this error within 60 seconds. Proving the coaching manuals that state that back passes should be chased down, he did just that and charged down West's attempted clearance before calmly sliding the ball home for his second goal of the game to extend Callington's lead.

Smith again went close on 68 minutes but it was Bodmin who attempted to get back into the game as the home side took their foot of the accellerator with Dowling and Walton both going close, the latter forcing a tremendous save out of Wormald but it was the home side who had the final word late on. From a Tony Truscott corner, the ball eventually found its way to Smith on the left of the penalty area and the experienced midfielder shot on the turn for his eigth of the season to complete the scoring.

Southcott was full of praise for his youngsters in their battling performance. He picked out in particular Tony Truscott, Adam Bartlett, Gary Williams, Gerry and Farris who all continued their great vein of form as the side prepare for a double of important away matches with trips to St Blazey on Wednesday being followed by a trip up the A390 to meet Launceston in the Charity Cup quarter finals on Tuesday 13th February.

WADEBRIDGE...................................0

LISKEARD...........................................3

LISKEARD bounced back from the previous week's 4-0 reverse at the hands of St Blazey with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Bodieve Park.

The first half though was uninspiring and the nearest either side came to scoring was when Greame Macmillan's header back across goal hit thefar post.

But no holding Liskeard in the secondhalf. They led within minutes of the turnaround when John Dawe's cross into the box saw Andy Sargent's point blank shot blocked by Wadebridge keeper Mark Gears but the ball ran loose and Lee Burns slotted home.

It was a Gears mis-punch which led to Liskeard's second. He failed to clear from a Dawe corner and theball ended up in the back of the net off Jamie Ahearne.

Liskeard were now dominating proceedings but it wasn't until the 80th minute that they completed the scoring.

Sargent had been a thorn in the home defence all afternoon and he turned his marker before driving past Gears from 15 yards for a deserved third.

"The points were most welcome but the most pleasing aspect of the afternoon was a clean sheet", said assistant Blues manager John Hillson.

MILLBROOK......................................4

St AUSTELL........................................2

Millbrook were lucky to come away from this game with all three points after building up a 3-0 half- time lead.

Things started brightly for Millbrook as they opened the scoring in the third minute through Jeff Babb.

The move started when Paul Edwards won a fine tackle to Norman away on the wing, and his cross was converted by Babb.

Within two minutes Millbrook were further ahead, when Babb was brought down in the penalty area, for Edwards to score his first goal for the club from the spot. Millbrook kept pressing forward and it was no surprise when from a James Gill overhead kick Justin Norman headed home at the far post.

Millbrook could have increased their lead before half- time, with Babb, Norman and Gill all going close.

St Austell came out in the second half and took the game to Millbrook, and scored after two minutes through Brokenshire.

After 25 minutes Millbrook's defence was caught flat footed, when St Austell scored their second.

Millbrook then missed three clear cut chances to finish the game off as first Mike Roberts shot weakly at the keeper when put clear through, as did Norman, and then Babb crashed a header against the St Austell bar.

It was left to Danny Medlin to settle the Millbrook nerves with their fourth goal five minutes from time.

Millbrook manager Ricky Cardew said once again against lowly opposition when we were on top, we so nearly let the game slip away. We must learn to finish sides off better, as we have dropped too many points in this way."
