North Hill..................................... 0
Callington Town......................1
Callington made the short trip to North Hill, for this second round Knockout Cup tie, in wet and windy conditions. It was always going to be difficult to get the ball down and play football.
Callington started the brighter with the wind at their back and created all the early chances forcing North Hill to defend for long periods. After succession of several corners it was no surprise when Callington scored from one, taken by Griffith. New signing Jamie Bradley was on hand to head in from six yards,
Callington continued to press with the wind advantage. But a very hard working North Hill side kept battling away and defended in numbers and cleared their lines when needed. Only 1-0 down at the break and with wind advantage in the second must have thought they had a chance of an upset. They started positive as did Callington in the second period, but with Reid, Fisher and Gerry in the heart of the Callington defence in solid from there was no way through for North Hill. Truscott had a low shot well saved from the home keeper from 12 yards with only 10 minutes to go. But at the final whistle it was the Premier side which went through.
Manager Paul Blatchford said with the conditions a big leveller, we worked hard for each other and battled when needed as did a very determined North Hill side. Star man - Scott Fisher.
Lanreath.........................................6
St Anns Chapel.............................2
IN heavy conditions fitness told in the last 30 minutes of this cup game were Lanreath scored four of their six goals.
Lanreath started well with penalty in the first five minutes which Andy Collins scored after being brought down. Collings had two other good chances of scoring before St Anns Chapel levelled with a long shot from Andy Eaton who caught the Lanreath keeper off his line.
Straight from there start Lanreath attacked and a cross from Matt Barton found Collins who slipped the ball under the advancing keeper to give Lanreath a narrow half time lead.
The second half saw Chapel start the brighter and levelled the scoring minutes through Kevin Darlington after Lanreath failed to clear their lines at the rack.
With 30 minutes left Barton pushed Lanreath ahead on the third attempt after Chapels defence closed him down well. It was then that Lanreath took control and with another goal from Collins and two more from Barton to give them both hat-tricks and a well deserved win.
St. Stephens................................3
Pensilva........................................2
Howling wind, torrential rain and a boggy pitch greeted Pensilva as they arrived at St. Stephens last Saturday. However, the game is one which will not be forgotten by both sides for quite a while.
Pensilva started cautiously, not knowing what to expect from the leading team in the Duchy Premier league who had already inflicted heavy defeats to local Premier sides. The first 15 minutes were shaky, but Pens defensive line held firm. Then, in the 25th minute, an inswinging corner from Jon Firth was flicked on and found Colin Wilson who controlled and scored in a crowded six yard box.
Pensilva piled on the pressure playing great football on a tough pitch and were rewarded 10 minutes later. Colin Swinburne headed back a St.Stephens goal kick straight into the path of Darren Worden who drilled his shot low past the oncoming keeper. St. Stephen were stunned as were Pensilva at the thought of a potential cup shock. Manager Matt Hogan was "lost for words".
But the second half turned into a nightmare. Pensilva defended for 30 minutes until they conceded the first goal. Some good interplay gave St.Stephens the chance of a unchallenged strike which left keeper Rich Rendle with no chance. Then a long ball over the top caught everyone out except the St Stephens forward who made it 2-2. Pensilva attacks were limited but it was the tireless running of Darran Worden that earnt him man of the match. The final blow came minutes from time. The home side never gave up, and a last ditch attack saw the ball fire across the penalty box only to find an unmarked attacker with a easy tap in.
St. Stephens had nothing but admiration for Pensilva efforts and although it ended in defeat, it was a game that gave confidence to a Pens side looking for promotion to the Premier league this season.
St Dominic......................................3
Camelford....................................0
AFTER more heavy overnight rain, this game was only just played after a second late pitch inspection. The surface was therefore very heavy and flowing football was very difficult.
St Dominic started positively and created some good early openings, with Andy Snowdon in a new midfield role very impressive. It was however keeper Richard Trevithick who pulled off a fantastic point blank save after 20 minutes to keep the scores level.
This seemed to spur his team mates into action and they soon took the lead with Jason Gregory nodding home from close range after good build up play. However despite playing some excellent football St Dominic could not find the net again as several decent chances were wasted, and at half time only held a slender lead.
St Dominic controlled the second half and proved that they were the Premier side in this Knockout Cup match. Chris Howie and Darren Bradley both had excellent games in the worse of the conditions in the midfield, and created openings for all the forwards. Jason Gregory latched onto one of these to make it 2-0 and then the same player was up ended in the box and Neal Horsley stepped up to slot home to finish the game off.
This was a determined performance from St Dominic in atrocious conditions and they were very worthy winners.

Foxhole............................................2
Tideford...........................................3
IT was a good thing both teams were wearing light colours on a day when thanks to a heavy mist that hung around for most of the proceedings, visibility only just met with the rules of the game.
In the early stages events were fairly even with Tideford creating in midfield but coming to nothing in front of goal, and Foxhole being more direct on breakaways and getting in a couple of off target shots on goal. It was during one of these efforts that the home side took the lead. Yet another Tideford attack broke down resulting in Foxhole dashing to the other end, only this time shooting into the top corner giving the keeper no chance.
There was then a period when either side could have scored, with both goalies being called on to make good stops. The half time score was brought level, and to a fair reflection of the game so far, when just before the break a Tideford throw in was back headed first by Dan Taylor and then Steve Howell to set up John Williams to volley in.
The second half was similar to the first but perhaps with Tideford's nippy young players beginning to get on top. When this did result in a goal for the visitors, Foxhole could consider themselves unlucky following vain appeals for offside when Dan Taylor received the ball clear of the defence to slot home. There was no doubting his next however when shortly afterwards he robbed a defender, beat a second and then pushed it past the home keeper.
With the score at 3-1 and only ten minutes remaining it should have been safe, but Foxhole had other ideas and moved up a gear. Several promising attacks resulted in a couple of corners and eventually a goal to bring them to within one of the visitors. However, they then lost the initiative, and with Tideford ensuring the ball was at the wrong end of the pitch for Foxhole to level, it finished 3-2 to the visitors.
It was refreshing to witness a hard but very sporting game in which a draw may have been a fair result. Nick Wakefield scored both Foxhole goals.

Polperro.......................................10
Nanpean............................................1
ON a day when many matches were cancelled due to bad weather conditions, Polperro can be thankful to committee members Paul Collings and Henry Meaking for their preparation of the Killigarth pitch thus enabling Saturdays match to go ahead. Well done lads.
In a match played in heavy conditions, it was Polperro who had the best of the earlier exchanges only to be thwarted by some excellent saves by the Nanpean keeper and some dogged defending.
It was not long, however, before Polperro's advantage began to tell and after 20 minutes opened the scoring when a fine right wing cross was converted by young Ryan Powell. This was followed shortly after by another goal when Phil Bain was on had to convert another cross from the right. Although under constant pressure Nanpean were very unlucky not to get on the scoresheet themselves when a fierce drive struck the underside of the bar, hit the line and bounced out, only for the referee and linesman (who was not Russian) to both concur that the ball had not crossed the line?
Polperro maintained the pressure and hit the back of the net twice more, both goals coming from the in-form Jason Richardson and were able to enjoy their half-time cuppa holding a 4-0 advantage.
Straight from the re-start Polperro laid siege on the Nanpean goal and were duly rewarded with further goals from Jason Richardson (3), Chris Jackman and Kevin Faulkner although probably the best goal of the half was when a superb cross field ball by Andy Garner found right winger Andy Giles whose cross was met by the head of Arron Spry who powered a superb header past the Nanpean keeper. But running this goal close not in power but in cheekiness was Nanpean's only reply when the visiting forward at last broke away from the Polperro's defence, drew the keeper, waited for him to go to ground, then very calmly just "flipped" the ball over the prone goalkeeper, what a nerve!
With very good performances all round, notably defenders Nick Southern and Wesley Garraghon and midfielders Phil Bain and Andy Garner it was always going to be difficult to pick a Man of the Match, but Jason Richardson's five goal match haul just made him the pick of the bunch from a very good all round team performance.
Many thanks to referee Paul Forse for allowing the match to go ahead and his excellent control of the ensuing game, and to Nanpean, whose young side never once gave up and were trying their best to the very end.
