Biscovery........................3
Callington....................4
IN the biggest game of the day saw Premier Cup holders Callington visit League Champions Biscovery. The game started at a furious pace with Callington dominating the first 25 minutes.
In that time Taylor had the best chance with only the keeper to beat, saw his shot go just wide of the far post, Callington had further chances but failed to convert them and were regretting it, as on the half hour mark with their first chance in the game Biscovery took the lead.
For the remainder of the half the football was starting to flow from end to end. Callington then got the ball out on the right with Tilbury who was taking on players for fun and was taking out in the penalty area. Griffin stepped up and blasted this ball over the bar.
After the break Callington came out in an even more determined mood and with minutes were back on level terms. Fisher found Tilbury who got the by line to cross this ball low and hard. Chris Truscott was on hand to tap in from six yards with the game still going back and forth.
Callington failed to clear a corner and somehow after a goal mouth scrabble, the ball ended up in the back of the net but back came Callington again, showing tremendous team spirit and within a couple of minutes were back on turn again.
Griffith, this time making up for his earlier error, went past two players and drilled a curling right footed shot from 25 yards which found the bottom corner but the Biscovery's credit they kept battling when it seemed that Callington had taken control of the game again with Tilbury and Brooks dominating the midfield, but yet again Callington failed to clear another corner which the Town goalkeeper, who had been impeded palmed the ball into the back of his net.
Callington had to dig dip yet again and with 10 minutes remaining following a powerful run from Brooks was found on the right of the area. Griffith again curled his right footed shot low into the bottom corner. With the tie now going into extra time, the next half hour was all about the domination of Callington.
Brooks now revelling in the conditions the introduction of Reid, Blake and Dominic Farris who equipped himself very well, found Truscott just inside the box. His left footed shot found the bottom corner to put Callington in front for the first time in the game.
Even though further chances came, a header from Farris and Truscott's shot saved by the 'keeper, Callington, the Premier Cup holders, were through to the next round.
Star Men - 'Tilbury and Brooks'.
St Dominic..............................0
St Columb Minor...............2
FOLLOWING last weeks heavy defeat against St Columb Minor, St Dominic had the ideal opportunity to restore some pride with a rematch against Minor, this time in the Premier Cup.
St Dominic started brightly and created the best opening of the first 20 minutes. Kieran Wenmoth played back a ball from the byline, but both Chris Wood and Mark Hogan missed a good opportunity. Jason Gregory shot over when well placed and slowly St Columb got the measure of their hosts before the break coming close when hitting the crossbar. But at half time it remained goalless.
The first ten minutes of the second period proved witty for the home side as Minor upped their game. Two defensive errors gifted Minor their lead. Firstly keeper Richard Trevithick and captain Oli Cradick got in each others way and left Shane Hickling the chance to open the scoring. Then player/manager Ian Hunn failed to clear and let the ball to be played into the neat post where Jack Lee was on hand to steer home.
For the remainder of the match Saints tried in vain to put things right. Simon Ford being most impressive in a more advanced role, but failed to create much against an impressive Minor defence.
Minor were worthy winners and St Dominic must concentrate on their coming League matches as they are already out of two cups but have a fine league record to date.

Narrow loss
for Gunnislake
St Newlyn East...................1
Gunnislake...........................0
Preparation for this match for Gunnislake were far from ideal as keeper Andy Woodward and two first choice defenders all became unavailable. However, the respective replacements, which included defender Mark Southcott going in goal, all had good games.
For 90 minutes both sides contrived to produce a bright and hard fought encounter. With chances virtually non-existent half time was reached with the game goalless.
In the second half the visitors did create a handful of chances but wayward finishing was to prove costly. At the other end St Newlyn only created two chances apart from the goal, each time Southcott saved impressively.
The goal when it came was a scrappy affair and was scored on the 86th minute to send Gunnislake to their first defeat of the current campaign.
This Saturday, Probus provide the opposition for a home knockout cup fixture, kick-off 2:30pm.
Duchy Division Two Cup
St Cleer...................................1
Altarnun........................1(aet)
(Altarnun won 5-4 on penalties)
SAINTS said goodbye to another cup competition this season when they went out after a penalty shoot out to Altarnun after the match ended 1-1 after extra time, the visitors converting four against Saints three, so going through to the next round 5-4.
On a pitch showing all the effects of the recent weather, both teams battled hard to gain the advantage in a first half while failing to convert the few half chances that came their way, Saints coming closest with a shot from Gubbin which rebound off the post.
While both midfields battled hard to gain the advantage, both sets of strikers found it hard going against tight defences, and the 0-0 half time score was an accurate reflection of the first half play.
The second period started brightly with both teams striving to get the breakthrough, and it was Saints who scored first, when after some good work on the left, Wall put over a brilliant cross into the penalty box which was met by Gubbin, who, under pressure from the keeper and defenders headed home to put the home side in front, a lead they only held for twelve minutes before they failed to deal properly with a corner and after a scramble Tryler scored from close range to even things up.
Saints again came closest when an excellent effort from Coleflax skimmed the top of the bar, before extra time was required, although with both teams finding the going harder and harder a penalty shoot out was inevitable.
A mention here must be made for Neil Foster, starting a match for the first time in a long time, finding himself having to play all of the 120 minutes as younger bodies gave out first. Granted he spent a lot of the extra time in the mud but he made it all the way through!
In the shoot out Saints were always playing catch-up when the visitors keeper saved their first effort and the second hit both posts before rebounding out, and although Altarnun missed their fourth they converted their last attempt to run out 4-3 on penalties 5-4 overall, and so progress to the next round leaving St Cleer with only the league still to play for this season.
Duchy Division Three Cup
Tideford win through
after extra time
St Stephens Borough......3
Tideford.....................4 (AET)
This local derby lived up to expectations, resulting in an end encounter which needed extra time to achieve a result. The game was excellently refereed by Dave Goldstone who complimented both teams after the match as being a credit to the league.
Tideford, sponsored by Polyne Garage, had the earliest chances but failed to capitalise on opportunities, to then find themselves one down mid way through the first half when a near post shot found its way in via the keeper.
The Saints lead was negated when an unnecessary foul tackle in the box presented the opportunity for Wayne Kirby to equalise from the spot. For the remainder of the first half St Stephens frequently raided deep into the visiting half but barely troubled Leigh Hulcoop between the sticks.
At the other end Tideford rattled the crossbar twice within seconds and had other opportunities that were not taken, leaving the score at one each at the break.
The second half continued much as the first with both teams having a fair share of the play, but it was Tideford who got the break when John Williams slotted home. It's a funny old game as some would say, and sure enough shortly afterwards Tideford missed the easiest chance of the match when trying to dribble the ball past the keeper instead of whacking it.
This would have put them three one ahead, but instead of that St Stephens raced to the other end and scored to make the score two each. This had a negative effect of Tideford who then struggled to get it together for fifteen minutes, during which time they went behind.
The finishing ability of ex Tideford player Chris Pierce-Jones was well known to the visitors, and although he had been well policed so far, he was given time to get a shot in from the edge of the box to put his old team behind.
Time was running out now and it was in the final five minutes that a superb diagonal pass was played into the path of John Williams who made no mistake, taking the game to extra time.
The excitement continued, added to now by tired legs making occasional mistakes. It was a mistake in the St Stephens defence that allowed Tideford substitute Glen Tookey firstly to rob a defender put into trouble by a poor pass, and secondly to win the fifty fifty challenge with the goalkeeper before slotting into an empty net.
St Stephen pushed everything into chasing an equaliser, but to no avail, leaving Tideford as four three winners.
The other St Stephens marksmen were Chris Allmet and Aaron West.
Duchy Division Four East
Ruck hat-trick
fires Town
Callington...........................4
North Hill.............................3
CALLINGTON were the side who were making all the running with Ruck and Blatchford going close when really Callington should have been coasting with the dominance they had with North Hill relying on the long ball and the forwards chasing through.
Ruck eventually made the break through when he shot home with a low drive from 20 yards. Callington seemed to have complete control when Ruck scored with a cheeky lob that caught the North Hill 'keeper off his line.
Into the second half and Callington's football was a joy to watch. Lee Rider, starting to play some delightful football, and Craig Linley starting to assert himself at the heart of the defence. But a feint of casual mid field play allowed North Hill to get another long ball forward and this time the defence was caught out and keeper Fletcher could do nothing and North Hill tucked the ball into the net and it was game on.
Within two minutes Ruck restored Callingtons two goal advantage and his own hat trick when he smashed a low drive just inside the post following another tide move from Callington.
With nothing to lose North Hill pushed forward and were now taking the game to Callington and when they got their second goal, you just knew that they would get three which they did and seemed to settle for a draw.
Not Callington though, and from a move started by Rider who set up Matt Reid who fed Mike Vanstone from his raking cross. Top scorer Kev Blatchford volleyed the ball into the net from five yards with only two minutes to go.
Delabole................................0
Polperro Res.....................11
AFTER losing this fixture 2-1 last season. Polperro were determined to avoid a repeat performance and were able to field a strong side despite having a couple of players unavailable.
However, the visiting side were unable to make an impression for the opening half hour, mainly due to some exceptional saves by the Delabole goalkeeper who repeatedly kept out the Polperro attack.
Polperro did finally manage to break the deadlock though Matt King and then added three more before half time through Aaron Spry. Del Palfrey and King again, the last being the goal of the game when King hit a great half volley into the roof of the net following good work by Mark Pengelly.
The second half saw even more Polperro pressure, to the extent that they were able to take off a defender and bring on supersub Chris "Rodders" Gowing in midfield. A brace of goals, one a brilliant header, from Spry saw him complete his hat-trick before Matt King went one better and ended with four goals, in a Man of the Match performance.
Such was Polperro's dominance, that at one point, all ten outfield players lined up on the opposition 18 yard line attempting to take a free kick!
This superiority was reflected in the final score, with the rout being completed by a great 6ft-footed strike by Martin Hamlet, and those prolific scorers, Jamie Rich and Matt Pengelly.
An excellent team performance overall, with particular credit going to Aaron Spry, Matt King, Brendan Palmer and 'keeper Shane Eastly, who managed to stay awake for 90 minutes despite not having a save to make in the second half!
