Snow caused chaos on the roads this week and forced schools throughout the area to close. Heavy snowfall brought major disruption and, with more snow possible over the weekend, police have been advising motorists to only travel if they have to.
The icy conditions left many people unable to get to work, with public transport affected, and many businesses have been closing early. School children had their return to school delayed. Almost 100 schools across Cornwall were shut on Tuesday and more than 200 on Wednesday, with many remaining closed yesterday.
Emergency services were kept busy and in some areas cars were left abandoned. There had also been several reports of missing people, but they were all located safe and well.
Cornwall Council staff worked day and night gritting the roads and with forecasters predicting more freezing temperatures there are now fears supplies could run out before additional supplies arrive on Wednesday.
Waste and recycling collections were cancelled in the former Caradon area.
