South East Cornwall and North Cornwall were still being badly affected today following heavy snow yesterday afternoon.
Most schools in the region are closed for safety reasons, while the chaos on the main roads continues.
Meanwhile, the A30 is passable with care, but Devon and Cornwall Police have advised people not to travel unless journeys are absolutely necessary.
Last night more than 100 cars were trapped on the A30 at Temple, near Bodmin, with many drivers taking refuge at The Jamaica Inn, which laid on extra beds and hot food and drinks overnight.
The police have asked drivers who abandoned their cars on the A30 last night to return to their vehicles as soon as possible to allow the authorities to clear the carriageways properly.
At Callywith College in Bodmin, many students and teachers were forced to stay overnight because of the awful conditions outside. One regular Liskeard-Launceston commuter on his way back to Falmouth reported: ‘It took five hours to get home last night (Thursday) as the A30 was difficult due to the heavy volume of traffic, conditions and abandoned cars.'There was a total whiteout at one point with traffic at a standstill and then, thankfully, it eased off leaving slush and ice. The speed at which the snow came in and the volume that fell in such a short time was incredible.’The Met Office have extended their Yellow Weather Warning for Cornwall to 11am tomorrow with temperatures not expected to rise much beyond freezing in some areas.Send us your snow stories and pictures.
